Marty Joe Murray is a father to an amazing three year old, a husband to his high school sweetheart, and an educator that has dedicated his life to his community.
In 2011, Marty acquired a bachelor of science in Business Management as a first generation graduate from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. In his four years at SIUC, Marty spent his time in student government being a part of the Paul Simon Public Policy institute, organizing on campus for President Obama’s first campaign, held political internships during the school year, and worked as a consumer advocate for the Attorney General Lisa Madigan. This is where he found his passion for public service.
After interning at both Barnes Jewish Hospital and The Federal Reserve Bank during the summer break, he was drawn to St. Louis. When he brushed up at the riverfront over a decade ago; he looked up at the city basking behind the old courthouse and knew this would be home.
After college, he led a team of sales associates as a general manager, which led to his current career in corporate America.
He has worked for companies such as the Federal Reserve Bank, BJC Healthcare, Centene, Express Scripts and World Wide Technology. As an International Project Manager, working with people around the globe, he works on multi-million dollar projects that reach 100,000+ people to making their lives better.
In 2015 he was the youngest ever enrolled in the University of Missouri- Columbia’s Executive MBA program where he received his Masters in Business Administration.

Everything he has done politically and as a community leader has prepared him to be the next 78th District State Representative. With his career in politics beginning in college, he continued to be a community organizer/advocate for social issues (raising the minimum wage, reproductive rights, and criminal justice reform), and has worked to elect candidates across the region.
In addition to informing his community about social issues, he has been to the capital to testify in committee hearings on behalf of bills and created relationships with our State Representatives, Senators and other elected officials in Jefferson City.

In August 2016, Marty beat a 23 year incumbent for the 7th ward Democratic Committeeman seat. Shortly after the election he was elected as the chairman of Missouri’s 78th legislative district committee, vice chair of the 1st congressional district committee and state committeeman of the 5th Senate district.
During that time as a Committeeman, he worked hard to make sure the party platform reflected the views of the 78th District. He hosted voter registration drives, organized get out the vote (GOTV) efforts for voter engagement and informed voters on the various issues on upcoming elections through social media, neighborhood meetings, forums, and making sure he was at the polls on election day to answer any questions that voters may have.
Marty currently serves as Committeeman representing Missouri’s 5th Senatorial District to the Missouri Democratic Party, sits on the board at a local organization supporting/advocating for the unhoused, and has shown his commitment to the 78th District in various ways throughout the past 8 years as a leader, neighbor, and friend.
Marty Joe Murray is seeking your support as he is running to be the next 78th District State Representative.
